Jetstar Pacific launches services from Hanoi to Da Lat, Phu Quoc

Low cost carrier Jetstar Pacific on Monday launched two new summer routes Hanoi-Phu Quoc and Hanoi-Da Lat to serve increasing tourists’ demand.

Le Hong Ha, Jetstar Pacific CEO, said an Airbus 320 with nearly 180 passengers from Noi Bai Airport landed at Lien Khuong Airport at 9:05 a.m. on Monday, marking its first flight from Hanoi to the popular resort town of Da Lat.

“Another flight from Noi Bai landed at Phu Quoc on the same day. More than 20,000 passengers have booked flights on the two new routes.”

“Jetstar Pacific wants people to fly more often and creates chances for them to discover interesting destinations, promoting tourism at the localities,” he said.

On the Hanoi-Da Lat route, a daily flight will depart Noi Bai at 7:15 a.m. and Lien Khuong at 9:40 a.m.

On the other route, the flight will depart from Noi Bai at 3:45 p.m. and return from Phu Quoc at 6:35 p.m. every day.

Dirty business: Hotels on Phu Quoc Island discharge waste into the sea

Littering by tourists and waste discharges from hotels are taking away the appeal of Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam as a must-visit destination.

Beaches on the island are now full of plastic bags, food containers and food waste left by tourists.

Nguyen Xuan Hien, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said: “If one person eats and leaves their trash behind, others will just follow.”

Local media has reported about the issue for months.

But Hien said the beaches are still dirty and officials have not fixed the problem.

Some locals have also criticized small beachfront restaurants for discharging wastewater directly into the sea and letting diners urinate on the beach.

But those small restaurants are not alone. Luxury hotels have done the same.

Along Ba Keo, one of the most beautiful and popular beaches on the southern island, there are 28 hotels and resorts. Most of them discharge their wastewater straight into the sea through pipes.

Tourists who want to swim have to go far away from these hotels.

Phung Xuan Mai, general director of a resort on the island, reckoned that only five hotels and resorts on the island have waste treatment systems, but whether these system meet the required standards is a different question.

Bung Binh Thien - the lake from the sky

A gem in the peaceful Mekong Delta province of An Giang, it is blessed with both breathtaking landscape and a rich culture nurtured by Cham people.

It has attracted lots of tourists in recent years. 

Bung Binh Thien is about 35 kilometers from An Giang’s capital town Chau Doc. To get there, cross the Con Tien Bridge over the Chau Doc River, then go along Road 956 for about 15 kilometers to reach An Phu Town. From there, go for another 10 kilometers to reach a junction called Quoc Thai, turn left and go for about two kilometers before reaching the lake. It is one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the Mekong Delta. The lake’s area is said to change in accordance with seasons – 300 hectares during the dry season between December and April, and 900 hectares during the rainy period between May and November. The lake is about four meters deep and never dries up. Bung Binh Thien connects with the Binh Di River, which is full of alluvium during the high-tide season that starts in the seventh month and ends in the tenth month of the lunar calendar. But, during the time, water from the river would always become clean when flowing into the lake, thanks to a kind of seaweed that lives in the lake and acts as a natural filter. The lake is home to four ethnic groups. Cham people make up the majority of its population. The Cham community follows Islam and preserves traditional customs quite well. Many still live in stilt houses… …and wear traditional clothes. The community’s mosque, Mas Jid Khay Ri Yah, carries typical features of Islamic architecture: a dome with a white star on top, and overturned-U-shaped doors. It is spacious, with numerous columns, white floors and ceilings painted in blue, representing freedom and peace. Kids frequent Bung Binh Thien and their presence makes it livelier. Must-eats for visitors during the high-tide season: grilled ca linh (a small fish species under the same family with carps) with a dipping sauce made from fish sauce and tamarind; banh xeo (rice pancake) with ca linh; and the traditional Vietnamese soup, canh chua (sour soup), modified with ca linh and dien dien flowers.

With over 300 years of development, Saigon has become the largest economic center in country. More high-rise buildings are springing up here. Standing on the roof of the HCMC Law University, visitors can also enjoy the panoramic Saigon, including Nha Rong Wharf and Khanh Hoi Bridge. Saigon Port works both night and day.  Shopping is one of the favorite activities of travelers to Saigon. In addition to markets, there are many busy commercial centers that open very late.

The annual planting season in Bat Xat, which starts in the fourth month of the lunar year, relies on the weather because the famers have no irrigation, just the run-off from the mountains, captured by their terraces.
